Windsor Florida Hotel

The location was great, next to a supermarket, the subway, and the beach. The AC worked well, and the blackout curtains did their job. The bedroom was really clean, but the bathroom needed a deep clean. Some staff were lovely and helpful, while others acted as if I wasn't right in front of them. There was a nice range of pastries at breakfast, but the hot choices never changed and got tiring. The worst part was the noise. I was next to some office where an alarm went off pretty regularly, and I could often hear people talking in the hall. The walls were thin, so it was a loud room.

The hotel is handy for tourist attractions and carnival, in the Flamengo area. My partner and I stayed during carnival week, and the service helped make up for the room issues. Staff were attentive for the most part, and the manager deserves a shoutout for being so considerate during such a busy time. They were attentive about cleaning the room and arranging taxis. We were first given the wrong room, and the alternative had significant noise problems. For some reason, I could hear the neighbors showering at any time. I can't in good conscience give more than four stars. I'd recommend the hotel if convenience matters more to you than comfort or quiet.

The staff were welcoming, and the rooms and shared spaces felt comfortable. The gym is short on both space and equipment, but it's still fine for a basic workout during your stay. I had a pleasant stay at Windsor Hotel Rio.

The breakfast is very good, perhaps the main reason this deserves any stars. The gym is an especially bad joke for a hotel of this supposed standard. Maybe this was a four-star hotel in 1987, but today I'd put it at three stars at best, and two based on the rooms. For almost €300 for two nights, the heat was unbearable because the air conditioning barely worked. Its motor made a constant, very annoying noise, and the rooms weren't soundproofed, so getting proper rest was practically impossible. The hotel is huge, overcrowded, and noisy, with people constantly moving around. Check-in meant about an hour in line, checkout took another 20 minutes, and the elevators were always full. Even making a complaint about the room meant another wait of around 30 minutes. Everything was slow, inefficient, and poorly managed. Nothing worked as it should, except the outrageously expensive prices. Never again.
