Encanto da Sereia

This place is falling apart now, though the photos seem to show it when it was new. It's the dirtiest hole in town. I left the day after arriving, but the owner ignored my complaint and still charged me for all five nights. For less money, I found a much nicer hotel in the Barra area.

The view is the hostel's one saving grace, and the volunteers were helpful. The entrance had cat, dog, and human feces all over it. There was just one women's bathroom, and it had no toilet paper. The kitchen was filthy, with bugs flying out of the microwave and grease coating the walls, stove, and pots. The cleaning lady only cleaned the common areas, then started talking on her phone. The cushions and the only common area smelled of cat urine. It was a very unpleasant stay.

The location is great and the people are welcoming, including the cleaning lady. The view is beautiful, and the rest was fine, but the bathrooms were very cramped and there was an unbearable moldy smell. The men's dorm had no ladders for the bunks. I'm short, so getting up was awful, until a woman lent me one. I've never seen that before. Not everyone can reach the top bunk, so there should be ladders and more bathroom space. That's why I wouldn't stay again, though the rest was okay.
