Novotel Salvador Rio Vermelho (ex Golden Tulip Salvador)

The staff were friendly, and both the location and food were okay, but the noise made it impossible for me to sleep. My first room was on the fourth floor, directly under the breakfast area, so there was a lot of noise there too. Then there was a constant machine noise, which I suspect came from the air conditioners on the very open fifth floor. Rooms facing 'mercado dos peixes' are especially noisy because of the bars below. I wouldn't have booked one if I'd known. Better sound insulation would help. I basically didn't sleep at the hotel.

The staff were kind and helpful, and my room was clean and nicely designed. The location is beautiful, and I had a very pleasant stay despite the service being a little slow at times. I'd recommend booking a sea view room for the stunning sunset. I'm attaching a photo of the view from the pool. I'd happily stay here again.

Marcos and Robert at reception were really helpful and accommodating. The hotel sits up a hill, which isn't ideal if you have injuries, but they offer a free car to take you up and down. The location and views over Salvador are great, with good local restaurants nearby. We asked for a sea view and didn't get one, though the room was still beautiful. Get a luxury room, the extra cost is worth it.

I loved that the hotel offers rides up and down the steep hill it sits on. The location made it convenient to get around Salvador de Bahia, and the staff, including Robert and the other front desk and service staff, were kind. The rooms were clean; some were dated, but mine wasn't too bad. The hard bed was my one real problem. I left with back pain and got a massage while in Salvador. On my last night I had to sleep on my pillows to make my back more comfortable.
