Vila Joanes is definitely the prettiest inn in Joanes. Its retired architect owner designed it to get away from the usual boxy, uniform look, and the result feels beautiful and cozy, with a constant breeze. There’s clear care for nature here: the shared areas get natural light during the day, and solar powered LED lights come on at night. Breakfast isn’t included, but there’s a shared kitchen where you can make coffee, snacks, and small meals. The inn is just a few meters from the beach, where the two best restaurants for lunch are. The room is spacious and simply but elegantly decorated. It has a double bed with a mosquito net, which I found unnecessary, a small clothes rail with hangers, two hammocks, and a bathroom. The bathroom is roomy, has hot water, and new fixtures. Outside, there’s a large, nicely decorated area enclosed by a fence of small beams. It adds to the inn’s mix of rustic and modern style, and there’s a wonderful shower out there. The owner is very helpful and attentive.

This place has the typical Marajó Island style and a cool feel. Paulo, the owner and an architect, made me feel very welcome and reminded me how beautiful life is and how it’s worth living. The rooms have natural airflow and light, plus a fan. I slept to the pleasant sound of the water, whether sea or river. I highly recommend it.

The view is wonderful, and the rustic place is very well cared for, with materials found on the beach put to use. There’s no air conditioning in the room, though, and without a breeze, expect heat and mosquitoes. Bring your own breakfast. There’s a kitchen at the inn where you can prepare it.

Joanes is a district of Salvaterra in Pará, on Marajó Island, and it feels much more secluded. There are great restaurants and a preserved beach, so it’s well worth visiting. Right beside the beach are the ruins of a church, giving you two things to see in one stop.

This is a cozy, simple inn in a great spot, with views of both the beach and river. The rooms don’t have air conditioning, and the wind is strong all year. There’s no food service, but guests can use the shared kitchen if they want to cook.
