Portobello Hotel

From the outside, it looks nice.

The bed was noisy, and the towels and sheets were thin. The rooms are tiny and involve a lot of stairs too, with short, rusty steps that make carrying luggage miserable. Getting to breakfast is a problem as well, with too many stairs, little shade from the sun at the tables, and not many options. The older receptionist was rude and ill-mannered.

They didn't make up my room, and the staff wouldn't even answer when I said good morning. The room had mold on the ceiling and a cobweb on the bathroom doorframe. In the area they call the annex, the iron stairs make a lot of noise when people go up and down.

We'd already paid by debit card, and it was late to find another hotel, so I spoke to the attendant and we changed rooms. The new room wasn't much better, but it was enough to get through the night. Breakfast was very basic. I had paid extra for the more spacious room, but when we arrived it felt more like a dungeon, with no window or ventilation. The bathroom was bad, the air conditioning may not even have worked, and the mold smell was the worst part.
