The Caravelas feels just like the town: simple, warm, inviting, and lovely. It sits among flowering and fruit trees, birdsong, and the Paraitinga River behind it. If you’re lucky enough to get suite 8, you can fall asleep to the river’s gentle sound. The rooms have the basics, and that’s enough for me. The mattress is great, the shower works well, and the white towels are very clean. Breakfast is simple and features local products. You can park right in front of your suite.

It’s a cozy little place with the feel of a grandmother’s country home. Dona Rosa gives wonderful service and is always focused on making guests feel looked after. Breakfast is basic, with coffee brewed over a wood fire. The rooms could be better, though. There aren’t many outlets, and the bathroom is pretty worn. I loved the little veranda out front with a hammock, such a clever touch. The location is great, close to the historic center and right by the Paraitinga River. You can even fish between naps in the hammock!

It’s a good pousada, but it badly needs maintenance. I’ve stayed here before and it wasn’t like this then. The price feels high for what you get, and breakfast is very, very simple.

A lovely pousada in a country estate, in a historic city listed for its Baroque architecture. Dona Rosa’s service is excellent too.
