Garoa Hostel

I couldn't get any sleep, even though the staff were great and the location was convenient. My private room for three had no sound insulation, so the bass from the two bars or clubs nearby and the hostel's own bar came straight through. The music went on until around 4 a.m. If you can't sleep with club-level sound as if the speakers were in your room, look elsewhere.

I only needed somewhere to sleep for 12 hours after my flight changed, before my Airbnb booking in Pinheiros. I walked in at 5 a.m. after leaving GRU airport, just looking for a bed, and they were very accommodating. The staff were friendly, the price was good, and the location seemed convenient. I barely used the other facilities, but would stay again. And to the woman with blue in her hair, thanks for lending me a phone charger long enough to save my battery. I never got your name.

The Wi-Fi was the biggest frustration. Even opening a Wikipedia page from my bed was a challenge, so streaming Netflix or checking social media was out of the question. The rooms were okay, with good air conditioning, but the doors were thin and you could hear everything. I stayed in a couple of different rooms over a few nights. There are bars on the street, nearby streets, and above the hostel, so sleeping can be hard. It won't suit everyone. The reception staff were consistently friendly, helpful, and flexible. There weren't many guests while I was there, which was actually pleasant. Showers were passable, semi-clean, with water temperature you couldn't control and a timer limiting your use. They served free coffee during the day, though it had a lot of sugar. Thanks for the good times here.

The bar service was great, and I really liked the burger. I was there to see a band, so I can't say much about the rooms. It seems like a good idea to turn the place into a gig venue, though I'm not sure if they do that regularly. The show finished early enough for guests to sleep, which seemed to work well. There are also some new places nearby for trendy street food, and the Faria Lima underground station is just a few blocks away. I'd recommend it.
