Hotel Amalia

The staff were welcoming and friendly, and the breakfast had a good selection of tasty food. The location couldn’t be better, and the hotel is great value for money. My two complaints are that the room could have been cleaner and it was a little noisy.

The room was clean, but street noise made it impossible to sleep, and the Wi-Fi was terrible. The hotel is central, though the neighborhood didn’t feel safe to us. I wouldn’t recommend it to English-speaking travelers: nobody at reception spoke English, so we had to use Google Translate for everything.

The room was large and okay, the breakfast was good, and the location was good too. The people working there were nice. But the building is old, and the elevator felt unsafe. I was stuck in it for over an hour without air conditioning. The emergency call button didn’t work, and no one answered when I called reception for help. A cleaner happened to walk by while I was calling out, or I might have been trapped longer. They also had to call someone to check that I’d paid when I arrived, because at first they wanted to charge me again. The whole place seemed a bit disorganized. There are a lot of stairs to climb if you don’t want to risk getting trapped in the elevator.

We booked two months ahead, and the hotel messaged us the day before our stay to confirm the reservation. We confirmed, and they replied that it was set. But when we arrived, they said they were fully booked. When I showed them the messages, they just shrugged, as though this happened every day. They offered us one night at Hotel Paris, five minutes away, but it was basically a substandard hostel and not what we’d paid for. They didn’t offer to cover the cost, so we had to pay ourselves. The mix-up meant checking out and checking in again the next day, when we already had activities planned in the city. The whole thing was unprofessional, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
