We picked Mercure São Paulo Jardins for our first visit to this vibrant city so we could walk to popular places and stay near the metro. For those reasons it was totally worth it, and we were happy with the friendly, attentive service. Breakfast was included and good, and we liked that some items changed on the second morning. Our room looked out onto two major construction sites, which made the already noisy neighborhood louder. That part isn’t the hotel’s fault. The mold is, though. There was a musty smell whenever we came back. We only found the cause after looking behind the curtains, where black mold covered the wall along the curtain edge, which is taped to the wall. There was mold in several bathroom spots too, and its window couldn’t be opened. We left our window open as often as possible. When we told reception about the mold, we got the impression it was just part of the experience and nothing would be done. Maybe mold is part of the experience in São Paulo, since it’s all over the city…

The room and staff were good, and the location in Jardin is close to the main street. The bathrooms really need refreshing, though. With a little maintenance this could be a very good place to stay.

The staff were generally friendly, and Jardins is a great base with shops and restaurants easy to reach. Still, it was a disappointing stay. I could hear other rooms and early morning construction outside, which made it hard to sleep properly. The rooms are fairly basic and could use upgrades. The location is excellent, but the noise and lack of comfort made the stay less enjoyable than I expected.

The location is great, and the staff were friendly and professional. The facilities need a lot of work: the elevators had problems every day, and the walls need repairs. I had to ask for towels three times, then ended up taking them from the cart because no one brought any.
