The cafeteria food and coffee were fresh and tasty, and it was cheap. Still, I expected better. The room was old-fashioned, too dark, and noisy even at night. The shower was weak, with no hot water, just warm, and the door only locked with a key. The staff seemed kind, but they spoke only Portuguese and couldn’t help me.

The breakfast was excellent, the staff were very good, and the nearby restaurants were good and inexpensive. The train station is close, and the shower was good and hot, as you’d expect from an electric shower. The neighborhood, though, is terrible. It’s an area for prostitution and felt very dangerous at night. The free Wi-Fi worked only about half the time, and when it did, it was slower than any 4G connection. The air conditioner in my room made such loud noises it was impossible to use. The beds were neatly made but extremely uncomfortable. The TV only had local channels, and about 90% of the content was religious programs or infomercials. Taking the good and bad together, I can only give it 2 stars. Reviews are very misleading about the location.

The location aside, this hotel isn’t suitable. The room smelled of cigarettes, the bathroom was old and the water rusty. The bed made for a terrible night.

For $20 USD, it was great value, and I doubt there’s a cheaper option that’s better. The place itself was neither terrible nor good.

Breakfast was good, and the price was low. It’s in a nice location and easy to get to from anywhere. I highly recommend it.
