The Connection Hostel

I’d never stayed in a hostel before, but The Connection made me enjoy the experience. During my week there, the staff looked after me and made me feel at home. It’s comfortable and affordable, with lots of people from all over hanging out in the lounge and bar, plus wifi throughout. For someone who likes a simple place, it couldn’t be much better. Highly recommended.

The prices weren't what I was told, and the staff took five minutes to let me out when I said I was coming back. I spent more than 10 years in Brasil, and came to SP for a few days thinking a hostel would cost less. They didn't answer the doorbell, even though staff were sitting around; a maid had to let me in. You have to buy your own locker lock, and the ones they sell for 10 reals look like a good kick could open them. The place smelled bad. Never again. I walked around the block and found the Landa Hostel. They were honest about prices, it was clean, and they lock up your things for you.

There are only two toilets for more than 20 people, and the place is absolutely dirty. A cellphone was stolen from my room, and it didn't feel safe there. Worst hostel I've stayed in. I wouldn't call it a proper hostel for travellers, since the people sleeping there are unemployed.

The location is cheaper, but the facilities are very basic and the amenities need repairs.
