Today Hostel

I booked a stay, but when I arrived, nobody answered the door.

A good spot to stay the night, with good prices and a pizza place nearby.

The infrastructure needs work. Some windows have no curtains, so cold air comes in and you can catch a cold. The pillows are hard, the sinks get clogged, and there are other issues too. The fridge in the kitchen is always packed, with hardly any room, and breakfast is basically just coffee grounds. To top it off, my phone charger was stolen. The place is full of children from Palmeiras's youth team, many from poor areas. A lot of them are rude and disrespectful to people and other people's space. They don't respect sleep, cleanliness, or keeping things organized. They spend the day playing free fire and watching tiktok loudly and being a nuisance. Sometimes you have to wait two hours to use the shared bathroom while everyone gets through, and by then the floor will probably be covered in pee.

The hostel is close to Sesc Pompeia and Barra Funda station, and you can also walk to Memorial da América Latina and Museu Indígena. It works well if you’re going to a show at the Palmeiras stadium or Sesc. Right now, Venâncio Alves avenue is closed to car traffic because of metro construction, so it’s very peaceful. It feels safe and is free of smokers and people using alcohol or other drugs. There’s a kitchen with a stove, microwave oven, and other basics. It has a family feel, since parents often stay here while accompanying children or teens taking tests to play football for Palmeiras. There are usually volunteers, including some from Argentina and Venezuela, so there are chances to practice languages and share cultures. At the moment, they also have some plants growing, including cilantro and parsley.
