Pousada Paraíso de Itaúna

Nice.

The location is excellent, close to the beach, shops, a bakery, the bike path, and the main spots in town. We could walk to a lot of places. If you're mainly looking for somewhere to sleep while spending the day out, it covers the basics. The rooms on the ground floor are much simpler. One in particular was too small and had a bathroom that flooded because the drain was clogged. I told the staff member, who tried to help, but it seemed like a structural problem that would take time to fix. I asked them to leave it for the time being and sort it out between guests. The cleanliness was poor in both the rooms and shared areas. It felt more like a house than an inn, without a consistent cleaning routine, yet without the privacy you'd have renting a house. We repeatedly wondered whether it was really an inn. The pool had dirty edges and cloudy water, which didn't feel suitable for a place hosting guests. There was no routine room or bathroom cleaning, and towels weren't changed regularly. They changed ours only after we asked, after several days. Check-in felt rushed and disorganized, with payment pushed before we were settled. Nobody explained breakfast hours, house rules, or how reception worked, which made us uncomfortable. Breakfast itself was simple, which was fine, but it wasn't well organized. On several days, basic items like juice came out late, only after we asked, near the end of breakfast. We ended up getting our own juice and using it. This improved only on the last day, perhaps after feedback. For much of the stay, especially at first, we felt watched by an older woman who was there. Even simple things like using the barbecue became awkward, though we eventually did it. This eased in the last few days, but it still affected the experience. The place accepts pets, but there weren't clear rules or a welcoming attitude. We tried to make ourselves and our pet comfortable, but felt more tolerated than welcome. In the end, we didn't feel at ease. At checkout, we were reminded about the departure time in a way that felt inconsiderate. Better communication would have helped, but given everything else during the stay, the experience ended up unpleasant. The owner seems open to improvements. There are signs of recent changes, like air conditioning and minibars in almost every room, but there's still a lot to improve in organization, communication, cleaning, and professionalism.

It's a simple but cozy pousada, and Dona Andreia and the gentleman working there greeted us warmly. The location is a good choice if you want to be near both the beach and downtown. They took care of all our requests, and we left hoping to return when we get the chance.

This was my third time visiting Saquarema and staying here, and Andréia welcomed us just as warmly as before. The accommodation was excellent, clean, and came with top-quality towels, sheets, and everything else. I highly recommend it.
