The outdoor area is lovely, with lots of space and birdsong, and the staff were friendly. Everything was clean, but the inside feels neglected and dated, from reception to the rooms and bathrooms. The owner really needs to invest in renovations; it feels like the place has been frozen in time. I booked at the last minute, the day before a Carnival weekend, so this was the only lodging I could find in Serra negra. I stayed just one night, thankfully, and don't plan to return. Room 238 was rough: the fan made an alarming racket when switched on, as if two rats were fighting, and seemed like it might fall. The bed was only so-so, the pillow was extremely thin, the TV kept losing signal, and the old minibar was empty. There was no phone in the room, so if you wanted water you had to go down to reception. The room had an old door and another door that wouldn't open, which seemed strange. The bathroom was clean but awful: everything was old, there was mold on the wall, and the shower barely let any water through. The breakfast was average, nothing special. If you'll be out most of the time and staying no more than two days, it might work for you. It didn't for me because the interior is so poorly cared for.
