Pousada Charlotte 2

The staff were so helpful and attentive with my family, and we felt very welcome. Breakfast was simple but had a surprisingly good range for the price. They also gave us great tips for taking the Maria Fumaça ride without spending much, which helped us save and still have fun. We really appreciated how thoughtful and hospitable everyone was throughout our stay. We had a couple of drawbacks. The bathroom door didn’t close properly and just rested against the frame, though since we were with family it wasn’t a major issue. They did let us choose which room we wanted. I also think the restaurant may be run separately from the hotel, since the management seemed quite different. Everyone there was polite and friendly, but I didn’t enjoy the food. The chicken with okra wasn’t like the dish we’re used to eating in Minas Gerais, and the price felt out of line. Still, the restaurant’s owners and staff were open to suggestions and recommendations.

I don’t understand the ratings here. The hotel is awful, like an unfinished construction site with no upkeep. There were exposed wires, an overgrown garden, mold on the ceiling, and a bathroom so cramped there was barely room for a toothbrush. The shower was weak and either extremely hot or cold, and the toilet leaked liters of water every minute. It was all bizarre. There’s no one at reception around the clock, and if you need to go out at night, you have to open and close the gate yourself. Pay a little more and stay somewhere else.

The beds and mattresses were top quality, so comfortable they felt like a hug. We came as a family, with my husband, my mother, my uncles, and me, and were treated so attentively from arrival to departure. João and the whole team were warm and considerate, and made us feel at home. Breakfast had plenty of fresh choices and was delicious. The pousada also has a restaurant where we had a wonderful, well-prepared lunch. We loved our stay and will definitely come back. I’m very grateful to João for all the care, and I highly recommend Pousada Charlote!
