Calypso Inn Trancoso

For what we got, I thought it was quite expensive. Our suite was at the bottom of the property, down a steep path, and there was a strong cat feces smell inside. The bathroom had nowhere to hang towels, and the tile grout was mouldy and broken near the shower drain. I didn’t like either the bathroom or the room’s location. Breakfast was really poor, with portions so tiny it felt like they were trying to discourage you from eating. The air conditioning worked badly. In the other room, the balcony door was stuck and access to the balcony was difficult.

The friendly, kind staff were a positive, and I appreciated that they accepted a one-night booking when many hotels and pousadas required at least two nights. Still, our room wasn’t ready until an hour after the check-in time, so we had to wait and push back our afternoon plans. It was damp, old, and smelled of mould. My partner developed red spots, intense itching, and burn-like marks on his stomach after what appeared to be bedbug bites. For health reasons, I can’t recommend this hotel.

We paid a lot for cabin 10, and what we got was not worth it. We stayed on the first floor for two nights, February 23rd and 24th, 2026. The cabin was small and damp, the doors barely shut, and the minibar never worked. The balcony hammock was dirty and looked ready to break. We reported the minibar and hammock, but no one fixed them or even came to check. After we brought this up, the service only got worse. I can’t recommend it at all.

The initial charm wore off after the problems with our stay. Bangalô duplex n.2 needs work on its wooden ceiling: it had termites, gaps between the boards, and sawdust kept falling onto the beds and pillows. We woke up with sawdust on our bodies, faces, hair, and sheets, and it caused allergic rhinitis. We told reception, but they neither moved us to another bungalow nor fixed the gaps. The distance to the beach was also disappointing. The first beach is 2 km each way, with a steep hill and walking. If you don’t want to walk, the taxi was an exorbitant 50 reais each way for that 2 km stretch.
