Lighthouse Pointe at Grand Lucayan - All Inclusive

The staff were helpful and tried their best whenever we needed something, but I can’t recommend this resort. More than half the hotel is permanently closed, and the whole place feels deserted with very few guests. We changed rooms twice because the first smelled strongly of mold, and the second had the same problem, though less intensely. Flooding seems to have left a mold smell throughout the hotel, and by our second day we felt congested and unwell. There wasn’t much food available. Most restaurants are closed for good, and the pool bar and lobby restaurant both close early. At each one, several menu items weren’t available because they lacked the ingredients. The pool and hot tub are in bad shape, with cracks and holes. Outside the hotel, we didn’t feel safe walking after dark. There isn’t much to do nearby, and we were warned that taking a taxi could be risky, so we spent most of our time relaxing by the pool and beach.

I had a lovely week here. The beach is beautiful, the pool is nice, the room was clean, and the staff were ready to help. Lunch at the beach bar is fast food. I’d suggest the Wave salad, which was delicious. It doesn’t come with meat, but you can ask for an Angus hamburger if you want meat in it. One thing left me uneasy, so keep an eye on your belongings. I put my passport in the safe as soon as I entered the room, entered my code and closed it. When I went out for my first meal, I saw a man in a hat approaching. When he noticed me, he turned around and went back the way he’d come. He seemed suspicious to me. I returned about 20 minutes later and found the safe open. My passport was still there, but I don’t know what happened. I closed the safe again. I also lost my belt, though I wasn’t sure whether I’d left it in the first room they put me in, so I didn’t report it. It wasn’t worth much, and I didn’t ask about it. I’m still unsure what to make of the safe, but I’d keep your passport with you.

I booked three nights but left after just one because of the condition of the place. The room had a powerful mold smell, wet carpet, and a dehumidifier running when I arrived. I reported it at the front desk within ten minutes and was moved, but the next room smelled just as bad. By morning I had a sore throat. The plumbing also wasn’t working properly, and while we waited for a plumber we were exposed to mold and sewage odors. Locals told me the building was meant to be condemned because it was unhealthy, though I can’t verify that. The manager, Mrs. Cartwright, was supposed to contact me about the problems, but more than a week has passed and I haven’t heard from her. I emailed to ask for a refund and got no reply either. For your health and safety, I’d avoid staying here. This place shouldn’t be open.

We booked at the last minute after our original reservation fell through, and it ended up being a great choice. The poolside DJ kept things lively, and everyone from the concierge to the wait staff and room service was fantastic. The food and drinks were delicious too. My family and I are already planning to come back. The facilities, rooms, and staff were all outstanding. It’s hard to put into words how much we enjoyed it.
