British Colonial - Nassau

We stopped in Nassau on a cruise and had a day pass with a cabana. It was an easy walk from the ship. Everyone we dealt with at the resort was fantastic, and the service was impeccable. The beach and pool areas were very clean, and the food and drinks were delicious. We’d definitely get a day pass again on our next Nassau cruise.

The location is gorgeous, and the staff are very kind, but service is painfully slow. We had a 9 pm dinner reservation and still couldn’t get water by 10. The kitchen was completely backed up, even eating at the bar wasn’t faster, and the snack bar closed at 10. They took prepaid Valentine’s Day reservations from non-guests, who ate fine, while hotel guests got no priority even with a reservation. It was basically clear we wouldn’t eat until midnight, so we left for the McDonald’s across the street. I waited over an hour for pool-bar lunch takeout for two on a random Monday, too. The hotel could be so much better with more staff. They reply to reviews saying they take them seriously, but maybe new management is needed. I wonder why Hilton no longer owns it, and imagine it was a more premium experience then. I want to enjoy the beach, not spend hours waiting for food. Also, there weren’t basic toiletries like a shower cap or Q-tip. For a $50-a-day resort fee, do better.

The front office team handled check-in and checkout well, and the front door men did a great job. My group and I will certainly return to the British Colonial Hotel. The staff were warm, friendly, and engaging, and the pool and beach areas exceeded my expectations. The property has been upgraded to a five-star level and has come a long way for the better. I want to recognize two employees. At one of the restaurants, a young woman with short hair, whose full name I can’t recall but whose first name starts with A, was professional, attentive, and ready to help my group and other customers with questions and concerns. She’s a gem. Sterline was also very professional, warm, and attentive, checking on our table and other guests repeatedly. She’s clearly on a great path in her career and represents the brand well. Both deserve any employee recognition the property offers. Thank you, Mr. Adonai.

Ms. Aliyah at the Trading Company Cafe was the highlight of my trip. She was incredibly kind and welcoming, made me feel at home, and is a great barista who really cares about the customer experience. Thank you. The staff were mostly pleasant, and the location and facilities are strong, including the gym, cafe, restaurants, and beach access. Still, the hotel is more than 125 years old and feels stuck in the past. It needs major technology upgrades, a better in-room coffee machine, dryers, and toiletries. For the first two or three days, I wasn’t given a key because their system was down, so I had to take someone with me everywhere to use their key, like a child. Around midnight on day two, the water was shut off for hours without notice, causing major issues for guests. It was an above-average stay at what could have been a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
