Rema Resort

Rema resort was our best hotel stay in Bhutan. The view of the mountains and river was very good, and town was a couple of km away. Rooms were spacious, clean, well maintained, and had all the amenities. Ordering food was delicious, though the breakfast buffet could have been better. I don’t eat breakfast anyway 😄. Service was very good: the women worked hard handling the bags, and the front desk was helpful about booking a cab to town for 200 Ngultrum. Highly recommended and good value.

We stayed for two nights in early December, during winter. The room was clean, spacious, and fairly new, with a good valley view from its higher location, though it was far from the city. The heater didn’t seem powerful enough for the whole room and switched itself off in the middle of the night. My friend woke up and put on more clothes. I gave the service two stars because the room wasn’t made up after the first night, and they didn’t replace the water or towels. Maybe it was because we couldn’t tip the girls who helped with our luggage at check-in, as we had no change. One of them gave us a black face even at dinner.

The Wi-Fi was miserable, and that significantly hurt my stay. In Bhutan, where using your own cell service is impossible for me, as it has been in every other country so far, and finding an eSIM provider outside the airport is close to impossible, dependable Wi-Fi is crucial. I’d just come from several days in the mountains and needed to catch up with work and family. Everything else felt five-star: the staff, rooms, location, food, atmosphere, and even the owner, who personally checks in with everyone. They grow many of their vegetables on the grounds, have a full bar, and the rooms have a beautiful view. Room: 5 stars. A/C: 5, bed: 5, outlet beside bed: 5, bathroom: 5, best shower I’d had in months, TV: 4, cleanliness: 5. Facilities: 5, nice comfortable lobby, no gym. Food and drink: 5, good restaurant and excellent bar. Wi-Fi: 1 star, terrible. Atmosphere, staff and service, location, and value: all 5 stars. My deduction was for the Wi-Fi.

I’ve stayed in these amazing cottages twice now, and they’re always cozy and comfortable. I have lovely memories there with my friends, and the great food, excellent service, and wonderful rooms made both stays special. It never disappoints, and I’m already looking forward to going back. Definitely recommend it, great value for money.
