Sonam Trophel Inn

The hotel was once finely decorated in wood, but it now seems in poor shape from a lack of timely maintenance. Several room fittings were faulty: door locks didn't work properly, there were holes in the door, suite bathtubs weren't working, and the washbasin taps couldn't provide hot water. The rooms smelled, and not all the lights worked. Staff were okay, but they couldn't do anything about complaints concerning the room facilities.

It's an old hotel with an old structure, and the doors aren't in good condition. The food was average too. We'd told the staff we needed to check out early at 6:30am, but the main door was locked when we went to leave and nobody answered the hotel's emergency number. After our driver tried repeatedly, a staff member finally woke up and came down to open it, somehow, about 20 minutes later. Please be careful.

Dirty, shabby and not maintained at all. The staff response was poor and they didn't seem committed to helping travelers. My family and I had two rooms for two nights, and we've never had an experience like this before. It's not a star hotel, just an old local one. Please check that all the amenities are available before booking and checking in.

The staff were very cordial, but the receptionist seemed poorly informed and very confused. She charged extra, then refused when I asked for the hotel bill. She started converting Indian rupees to dollars and dollars to Bhutanese currency. The hotel itself was average, and the food was below average for the prices. I wouldn't recommend booking here.
