Spirit of Bhutan Resort in Paro was a peaceful base for my fieldwork after I'd been abroad for a couple of years. I went between my field sites and time with family, and it was a welcome place to return to after long days in the mountains. The spacious rooms gave us room to relax and organize gear, and looked out over the mountains and majestic Paro Dzong. Meals were consistently delicious, just what I needed to refuel after demanding days. The location made both town and the surrounding areas easy to reach on foot. The staff were generous, kind and well-spoken, and their courtesy and professionalism eased the logistical stress of fieldwork. I'd recommend it to academic researchers who need a reliable base, or travelers looking for genuine Bhutanese hospitality.

It feels more like a jail than a hotel, and I've never experienced such stingy service. They charge for everything and stay on your back over simple things. If you're travelling with children, they won't even give them food. A beautiful place by itself isn't enough. If you want a peaceful stay in Paro, avoid this resort completely.

I've stayed at Spirit of Bhutan twice and really enjoyed both visits. The setting among rice fields and mountains is beautiful, and my spacious, comfortable room even had a nice outdoor spot to sit. Wi-Fi was fast and reliable. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, including helping me arrange a great driver for my trip to Thimphu.

The staff are attentive and the food is good at this well-run 3-star resort. Rooms are comfortable, though in the cold season you'll need a heater or two. It's not far from central Paro, and there's a nice view of the dzhong across the rice paddies.

The room had a good bed and shower, and plenty of space and comforts. There is a step up or down in the room that could be dangerous, though. Check-in was smooth, the front desk helpful, and the staff friendly. It's centrally located, with good breakfast or dinner. Definitely recommended.
