Udumwara Resort

Our balcony looked straight out at the river, and the room itself was very spacious. But cleanliness wasn't up to standard: there was chewing gum stuck to a chair, and a water bottle left in the room was leaking. They provide two sets of tea and coffee sachets, then charge if you want more. One heater was broken, though staff replaced it right away when we asked. After my wife and I finished the Tiger's Nest trek, we were dusty and asked for another bottle or two of shower gel. We got it, but reception actually asked why we needed so many bottles. We only had one small 2 or 3 ml bottle, nowhere near enough for both of us, yet they made us feel as if we were planning to take it home. The bathtub was nice, but the geyser was so small it couldn't fill it even halfway with hot water. There were exposed wires all around the room, and I left feeling very dissatisfied. Whoever awards resort stars should check regularly whether a place still deserves them. There are plenty of better resorts and hotels in Paro, so don't waste your money here.

The river setting made this the best resort we stayed at in Bhutan. The water flows just behind the room, and sitting beside it was wonderfully peaceful. Rooms were incredibly spacious, with breathtaking views; the whole stay felt special. Staff were amazing and the food was top-notch. It's a little far from the main market, but a cab costs around ₹150, which felt well worth it. Paro was chilly, so they thoughtfully supplied two heaters and warm water, along with everything else we needed to be comfortable. I'd highly recommend Udumvara.

The room was quite large, but the floor polish smelled so foul that it was hard to stay there. Towels were faded, oddly stained, and stiff as cardboard. Wi-Fi didn't reach the rooms, so guests crowded around reception to get online. The food was unappetizing too. This is an old, poorly maintained, low-quality hotel. I suspect travel agents recommend it because they can get it for 2-3K.

We came as a large group and had a very enjoyable stay. The staff were courteous and efficient, and the service was excellent. The resort is beautifully kept, with tasteful, spacious rooms and a breathtaking riverbank location. Very nice value for money, and I'd highly recommend it.
