Dinner was the standout for me at Wangdue Ecolodge. The organic, home-grown Bean Ema Datshi was simple, authentic, and honestly one of the best meals I’ve had. Breakfast was decent, though the choices were limited. The lodge sits in a secluded spot with a peaceful view of the monastery and river, a lovely place to slow down. Our room had a rustic look that fit the surroundings and was still comfortable. The staff were friendly and warm, and we got to meet one of the owners, Sonam, and his friend Dasho (Yash). They made sure our stay went smoothly and felt memorable. A peaceful, authentic Bhutan experience for anyone wanting to disconnect and enjoy nature.

The people and the food are what made Wangdue Ecolodge such a memorable stop for us. The staff made us feel at home, and the meals, cooked in an open kitchen with locally grown ingredients, were the best we had on our whole Bhutan trip. Special thanks to owner Sonam, whose kindness and dedication meant we had everything we needed and more. The lodge is a standalone property on a quiet hilltop, with views of Wangdue town, the mountains, and the river below. Our spacious wooden cabin had a large balcony for enjoying the landscape, and the bathroom was generous and comfortable. This was easily the highlight of our trip. If you’re heading to Bhutan, it’s a stay we won’t forget.

It feels overpriced for what you get, and I’d avoid this property. Management and the food service need improvement. Getting around and the slow service also took up a lot of our time.

The room was spacious, with an artistic feel, art frames, and a lovely loo. Wangdue Dzong looked amazing from there. Make sure to eat breakfast outside on the dining terrace.

The cottage room was spacious and comfortable, and the food was good. The manager was very friendly too. I stayed here as part of a package. The road up to the hotel looked dangerous because it’s high in the mountains, though the views were beautiful.
