The meals were included, and they were consistently good, simple food done well. Staff were warm, attentive, and thoughtful throughout, without hovering. The place felt peaceful from the moment we arrived. Its architecture is calm and elegant, with a minimal style that sits beautifully in the surrounding nature. We stayed last December and came away with a really memorable, relaxing experience.

Dining was a lovely part of the stay, with seasonal Bhutanese flavors served simply and elegantly. The spacious suites have warm wood, Tibetan textiles, and large windows looking across pine covered valleys. Service felt gracious and discreet, and the spa treatments and guided cultural excursions added to the experience. Amankora Thimphu has a quiet, restorative feel, blending Himalayan serenity with understated luxury. I highly recommend staying here.

The staff bring a genuine Bhutanese warmth to the stay and seem to anticipate what you need with quiet grace. The lodges feel closely connected to their landscape, with pine scented mornings, calming mountain views, and spaces made for stillness. There were private temple blessings, forest walks, and dinners by the fire, all arranged in a way that felt personal but easy. Amankora Thimphu brings together Bhutan’s timeless calm and Aman’s understated luxury in a way that felt intimate and transformative to me.

We spent two blissful nights at Amankora Thimphu, and by the time we left, after just two days, it already felt like home. The gardens were a treat. We learned about the gardener’s organic methods, saw how lovingly everything was tended, and picked fresh eggs for breakfast. The food tasted fresh and sweet, and meals could be kept simple or made into full fine dining. Breakfast offered local dishes as well as the usual eggs and bacon. Days brought short hikes and excursions, plus yoga or meditation in the mornings. We also had a lovely cultural dance show put on by local villages one evening, and spent other evenings around the fire. Everything felt personal and inclusive. The hosts and staff were obliging and looked after every need. Housekeeping kept our room perfectly tidy so quietly we hardly noticed. Rose, the manager, was very hands on, and Kinley welcomed us at the lodge and made sure we had what we needed. Though older, the lodge showed quiet luxury and was beautifully maintained. The rooms are large, airy, and bright with the blinds open. In the evening, we found the lighting a little subdued and would have liked it brighter, but it was a minor issue. The beds were heavenly, and each evening the bathtub was filled so we could return to a ready, relaxing soak. Thimphu was the first stop on our Bhutan trip in November 2024, which began a two week adventure through several Aman lodges. At Paro airport, our guide Tashi and driver Ugyen greeted us warmly, and we felt an immediate connection. Tashi was a wealth of information, and over the following two weeks we became friends. We were given a beautiful folder with the trip details, map, and itinerary, and knew we were in for a trip of a lifetime. This was a wonderful start, and we knew the next four Amankora lodges would have a lot to live up to. Leaving for Punakha was bittersweet; I'll review that stop separately.

The care from everyone at AK set a very high standard for what a getaway can feel like. The service was attentive and carefully personalized, and we loved the rooms, dining, and evening activities. Every AK team member was exceptional, as were the managers Karma, Rose, Phuntsho, and others whose names I can't recall. It warmed my heart to hear the AK family celebrated its 20th anniversary last year and to see why. Words and photos still don't do Amankora Bhutan justice. It exceeded my expectations.
