City Hotel Thimphu

We had to return to Thimpu a night before our booking because of bad weather, after cancelling our stay at Phobjikha. The hotel gave us a room right away, which was really nice. It was clean, spacious, and well equipped. The shower area in the washroom had a waterlogging problem that was never fixed. Breakfast was good, though the choices were limited. The location is good too, within walking distance of the city centre.

The lobby staff made the biggest impression. They helped me put on my Kira properly, arranged taxis, and assisted with whatever I needed. I travel around the world often, and their service easily meets Western standards. I stayed in an upgraded luxury suite and would like to come back next year.

The location is central and the rooms are good, though a little worn. I found it difficult and confusing to communicate with the staff, except for the manager.

We stayed for two nights, and the staff were extremely courteous and helpful. Room 305 had a lovely view, with the Buddha visible in the distance. The room was spacious and comfortable, the bathroom was very clean with good hot water, and the heater kept us warm. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. There was a substantial breakfast spread, and the Indian dishes we ordered for dinner were tasty and well made. They take a little while to prepare, so order early and come down later. The hotel is close to the city centre, restaurants, cafes, and the farmers market, all walkable. Great value for money. As a bonus, OM cafe next door serves good coffee and excellent croissants.
