The waterhole was lovely, crowded with elephants, and the WiFi there was good. There’s a pool too. But the campsite charges $40 per person despite having no electricity or water, which feels far too expensive. There’s no restaurant or bar, and two charging plugs at the waterhole aren’t enough. I’d recommend Chobe Hideaway about 10 km away, where it’s just 200 Pula a night.

The campsite is basic, with a fire pit at each spot and a small shared bathroom, just one stall each for men and women. What makes Thobolo's special is the viewing platform over a very active watering hole. We saw a herd of buffalo and elephants, among many other animals. At night, elephants came into camp, and one was chomping on the bush right outside our tent. Wild and incredible.

The managers are so friendly that you feel right at home, and what a location! We had dinner there too, and it was lovely. Food in Botswana hadn't impressed us much before this, so we weren't sure what to expect, but it was delicious. The manager said the chef is always trying new ingredients and techniques. I highly recommend giving it a try. You eat by the waterhole in candlelight.

We stayed at the campsite for a short visit, and the very kind hosts made it really pleasant. We especially loved the lookout point, with its spectacular view over the small lake where all sorts of animals gather. We spotted lots of zebras, gnus, and buffalo, as well as a few wild dogs. Thank you so much!

We spent two nights camping at Thobolo's in June 2025 and absolutely loved it. The lookout deck over the waterhole was such a treat. We saw herds of buffalo, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and the usual antelope. The ablution facilities were by far the best we've seen at any campsite in Botswana. Staff and management were extremely helpful, and it felt like they really wanted us to have the best experience. The signposts were excellent too, so we didn't get lost.
