We were meant to stay three nights, but left after the first. The views, location, and main lodge building are amazing, but apathetic service, neglected room maintenance, and the missing guide activities made the stay a shock after our wonderful time at Wilderness Momba. We expected the same high standards and were badly let down. There's clearly a management issue. The room had a hole in the wall where a squirrel came and went, dirty marks on the walls, broken living-room reading lights, no safe until we had to get one installed, and a stained, dirty daybed. We wanted the advertised canoe trip and a walking safari, but neither was available. No alternatives were offered; we were just told there weren't enough guides in camp. Our guide knew a lot, but had the energy and engagement of a sloth and didn't add much to the experience. We were also paired poorly with an elderly couple who spoke little English and were on their first safari of the trip. It was our third, so we knew what we wanted to see and do, but were severely limited. They were keen birders and wanted to stop every 100 meters for birds, which we had no interest in. Management offered no solutions or help, just a shrug and a 'well, that's all we can do' attitude.

We were very comfortable at this beautiful lodge, with great food and service and amazing sunsets over the water. But the thick vegetation meant wildlife viewing was very limited compared with other places in Botswana. Since seeing wildlife was our main interest, I wish we'd known beforehand. We would have added a few nights at other lodges and skipped this one.

The Monday night Boma is worth catching, with staff singing and dancing during a traditional meal under the stars. The covered vehicles were comfortable, and guides shaped activities around each group. Wildlife viewing isn't the strongest here, but if you've already had the thrill of seeing cheetahs or wild dogs chase elsewhere, add it to your list. I've rarely stayed somewhere so luxurious in the bush. The rooms are huge, more like apartments, with a stocked bar, coffee, snacks, a plunge pool, and a sitting area. The food is over the top, so the snacks aren't really needed. Staff even arranged a telescope so we could watch the lunar eclipse from our room, and each room had good binoculars. Truly one of life's great adventures.

We only had two days here and I'd recommend staying longer. The water safari was great, with elephants crossing the river, hippos swimming, and a great guide. Our game drive was also great, with lions, cheetahs, and a honey badger. Stunning location, beautiful rooms, amazing staff. Go go go here!

I've visited twice, at both the old and new camp sites after they moved down the river, and saw wild dogs both times. There are elephants everywhere in this area, too. It was an incredibly lavish safari experience with top-notch staff.
