Fort George Hotel & Spa

We spent a rainy day at K’IN Spa, where Shyarah gave an amazing massage. The food was outstanding too: I had the snapper ceviche twice, and we also loved the queen snapper at dinner and Thursday taco night with margaritas. Julia at The Three House made our mornings with delicious iced coffees, and Jairo took such good care of us. Our penthouse suite was beautiful, and the hotel has a cozy, appealing feel with very warm hospitality. Fort George Hotel is a gem in Belize City, a short ride from the airport and a good starting point for exploring the area. Visiting the Altun Ha Mayan ruins, about an hour away, was a highlight, especially with our wonderful guide, Cairo. Before heading on to Reef Haven Belize in San Pedro to see the Belize Barrier Reef, this was a perfect place to begin. I can't wait to return when the new tower opens.

The room has a huge glass window into the bathroom, visible from the bed. There are curtains, thankfully, but the setup feels odd and isn't ideal. Still, I'd stay again. The hotel is clean and well located by the ferry terminal, with a quick ride to the airport. Staff were friendly and really helpful, and the gym is pretty decent.

The food was top-notch, from the creative drinks at the bar to an excellent dinner, and the restaurant service was outstanding. The clean, comfortable room and good bed made for a restful night. The property itself is beautiful and well kept, and most of the staff were welcoming. We ended up needing a hotel at short notice after our flight was unexpectedly canceled, and Fort George was a good choice overall. A few things could've gone more smoothly: the online booking system didn't work, so I had to reserve by phone. The front desk and concierge seemed unsure when I asked questions, including whether the pool was heated. After checkout, it took several calls and emails to get my receipt. A welcome drink at check-in, even just water or lemonade, would be a nice touch. I'd absolutely stay again.

The room was comfortable and clean, and I liked the gym. The hotel looks nice, but my stay began well and ended terribly. The pool could be bigger, and a hot tub would be nice. We skipped the restaurant because we wanted to try local places. At 10am on checkout day, with checkout at 11 and having been told I could stay until noon, housekeeping came into my room without knocking despite the do not disturb sign. I was in the bathroom and first thought it was my friend coming back from the gym. Whoever entered must have heard me and left, but they left the door open and unlocked while I was showering. It was very unsettling, since my things could have been taken. I complained to the front desk when checking out, and they laughed it off. I definitely wouldn't stay here again.
