Placencia Resort

Couldn't have picked a better spot for a relaxing vacation. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the hotel is charming, with attentive staff who went above and beyond. The location was fantastic and the value for money was excellent. Staff were incredibly friendly and efficient, and the rooms spotless, spacious, and very comfortable. A perfect stay, highly recommended.

The pool, restaurant, and staff were really nice, but we could barely enjoy the pool since it rained four of our seven days. Getting around was inconvenient too: there are no other restaurants within walking distance, and the nearest supermarket is 20 minutes away by car. You need to rent a car or take a taxi, which costs $20 to town, only 20 minutes away. We booked an ocean-facing, three-room villa. The space was decent, but very dated, with an old couch and an uncomfortable bed. There was mold on the bathroom walls, and the rain shower had so little pressure that it sprayed everywhere and made showering messy. We saw quite a few cockroaches, and two of the four air conditioners didn't work. I would NOT recommend this place.

The pool was lovely, and I liked the outdoor areas, but the water was gross, more like a marina. The hotel also shows plenty of wear: dripping faucets, sticking doors, and cabinet doors off their hinges. They forgot the airport shuttle we'd booked, so we waited 40 minutes for them to come back.

The pool is fantastic, and the food isn't too bad either. The beach water is unpleasant, though. Sargasm sits rotting in the harbor, leaving the sand in the water more like sludge. My bigger concern came three months after the stay, when they charged $300 to my credit card. I couldn't get hold of anyone about it, and the front desk had no idea. Scam? Theft? Be careful, and find somewhere closer to town.
