We kayaked through the mangroves in one of the double kayaks, and it was beautiful. There’s also a nice pool with lounge chairs, since swimming in the sea isn’t possible because of crocodiles. The rooms were clean and the towels were nice, and Seaside Chateau is a lovely, secure place on the coast of Belize City. The restaurant food was good, but service took a long time, so be prepared to wait and have cocktails.

We were there for our anniversary and loved the relaxed, family feel at Seaside. Our cabin had a small porch, a room with a bed and pull-out couch, a little bar with stools, and a bathroom with a walk-in shower. The staff were so friendly and made us feel at home. Owner Dave helped us book a night tour at the local zoo and animal rehabilitation sanctuary, which we’d recommend. Seeing the nocturnal animals that are usually hidden or asleep during the day was cool, and we got to feed and pet the national animal, tapirs. The food was delicious and service was great. There’s a saltwater pool, hammocks, two different areas, and kayaks to use.

The cabana was filthy, with old clothes left by previous guests and thick dust, especially on the ceiling fan. The bedding and pillows were worn, and oversized furniture made the room feel cramped. There was no water in the mini fridge, which seemed unacceptable in a tropical place. The internet and TV were unreliable, and the kitchen staff were painfully slow. Food was mediocre at best and very overpriced. There was no buffet breakfast, which I expected at a resort, and waiting 45 minutes for a cup of coffee was inexcusable. I expected a relaxing, top tier getaway, especially so close to Belize City, but the resort fell flat and left me thoroughly disappointed.

Seaside Chateau is clean and peaceful, with friendly, helpful staff and lovely grounds for a walk. We booked the Honeymoon, aka Avocado, Cabin for four nights at the end of Dec 2025. It’s about 15 minutes from the airport, and you don’t really hear the airport noise. The side road from the highway to the resort is full of potholes, past an industrial area and bumpy even after that. We were glad to have a small SUV and drove slowly. There are two gates. The first is usually open, but I think it locks after 7 pm; resort security is there 24 hours and will open it when they see you on camera. We arrived an hour before check in on the first day while helping other family members, and the office said it was too early. We explained we wouldn’t be back until 5 or 6 pm, and the staff member said that was fine. When we returned around 6, a car drove off, turned around, and followed us back. The office had closed early, and we’d just caught him on his way out. He showed us to the cabin, gave us the key, and left. The binder had more information, but we spent that evening wandering around to figure out where things were. The cabin layout was interesting, with a tub in the main room by the glass doors facing the ocean. The bathroom had walls but no ceiling. We bought air freshener in town to deal with smells. There was a small fridge for drinks, no room phone, and the WiFi was pretty good. We couldn’t figure out how to watch anything on the TV, but could stream from our phones. The resort seems to pride itself on being eco friendly, though I hadn’t expected that. The shower took a while to heat up and ran out of hot water quickly. A sign by the toilet asked us to put all tissue in the bin. Room cleaning is only done if requested before 9 am. At the restaurant’s first deck there’s a table with clean water from a large jug to fill a bottle, and you can make coffee there too. When our room was cleaned one day, they didn’t replace the blanket, leaving only a sheet. It got cooler at night by the water, and I needed a blanket, so I used our towels to keep warm. We’d arrived after the office closed and didn’t know where to find one. The cabin door lock was near the end of its life, and we had to fiddle with it to get the key to work. There’s a small microwave in the games room on the second level of the motel space. Paper towels there would be useful for wiping things down before and after use. The restaurant food was great, and they let us pay as we went or charge it to the room. We didn’t understand how the restaurant worked until our last night, when our server said many people order earlier and tell staff when they want to eat. There could be a long wait if you ordered on arrival. The free breakfast was limited but good, and you can pay extra for waffles, an omelet, or French toast.

I stayed for two days while waiting for my friend to arrive. The place looked cute in the photos, and I took some nice pictures and went to the pool. The food was decent, nothing amazing, but fine. It took forever to arrive, and staff would tell me to go relax and do something instead of waiting at the table, basically saying it would be a while. There aren’t many adult drink options or any markets within walking distance, and I got bored pretty quickly. There’s no actual beach like the description says. I ate, slept, and used the pool during my two days there. Glad I didn’t spend my whole vacation there.
