Parrot Cove Lodge

The balcony view is spectacular, and there’s a good stretch of beach and a great pool. The location was awesome, service excellent, and everyone very friendly. Our only real issue was the shower, which barely trickled and had no hot water. We skipped the restaurant because it seemed really expensive.

I booked without checking reviews and ended up pleasantly surprised. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the spacious rooms have balconies with spectacular ocean views. Breakfast is complimentary, and dinner reservations need to be made. Canoes and paddleboards are included, and they’ll also share dining options at other restaurants. I plan to stay here again.

We stayed two weeks in February and it really felt like a second home. We couldn’t meet Chef Rob and his wife, but their exceptional staff treated us like family. We were lucky to have a supreme room. Breakfast was delicious, and each morning we were greeted warmly. Most days we relaxed by the water, biked into town, or went canoeing. The people in Hopkins were friendly too. We’d love to return someday, and I recommend fitting in a couple of excursions.

The beds were comfortable, but this felt like a motel to me, not a three-star hotel. The building isn’t soundproof and is run down, and the lounge chairs are old and nearly falling apart. Palm trees shade the beach all day, and there was a lot of trash by the water. Other hotels nearby had much nicer beach areas. Breakfast had only one option, and local kids came up to the patio asking for money and snacks. They also booked us on a tour with the wrong time, arranging our driver to pick us up before it ended. I called during the tour to try to change the pickup time, but no one answered. They wouldn’t offer compensation for their mistake, which was awful service. Edit: we did eventually receive a partial refund.
