Our favorite place to unwind was the upstairs hammock, with its great view, at this peaceful inn on the edge of the village. It’s an easy walk into town. We loved every minute at Sugar Patch Inn and would happily return. The host’s kindness really sets it apart: he checked in often, helped us plan activities, and even talked with a local restaurant so it would open just for our family. When our son left his phone behind, they went out of their way to mail it back. We won’t forget that generosity. We also had delicious stewed chicken with mashed breadfruit, and got to try fresh sugar cane, which was fun and memorable. Sugar Patch Inn is a special place with a wonderful host. We’re grateful for the stay and hope to come back someday.

We had a hammock and a fantastic view of the ocean from the deck, which we loved. Wayne looked after us really well and shared useful tips about Hopkins and the surrounding area. He also rents cars, so we could explore Belize by ourselves. The people in Hopkins really are so friendly.

We were treated very well, and the place is in a beautiful part of the world. The room had everything we needed, including the things we wanted. We used the A/C in the evenings and spent the days out at nearby parks, hikes, reefs, and other activities. Sugar Patch is a great, affordable place to stay. The owner built it and manages it, and I think he does a good job. I’d read some negative reviews, so here’s my take: if you want to be pampered, the resorts a mile down the road cost six times as much, and they’re too far from the village to walk. If you rent a vehicle from him and bring it back half a day late, you’ll pay extra, just as you would with other rental companies. Thanks for a terrific stay. I’d stay here again if I return to Hopkins.

Wayne was staying on the property while we were there and was very helpful. He also rents vehicles, which was convenient. There are just four rooms: the two upstairs face the beach and share a large balcony, while the two downstairs face the road and have covered porches. The upper rooms have a great beach view and nice ocean breezes. We stayed four nights and also stayed across the road at the All Seasons. Both are very good places in Hopkins. Sugar Patch is on the beach side of the road, with a short walk to the beach. The rooms are larger than at All Seasons, though hot water is less abundant here. There was coffee and a coffee maker in the room, plus a refrigerator that I used and a TV that I didn’t.

We left after one night, even though we had paid for two, and got no refund because we booked through booking.com. The place was seriously overpriced. When we arrived, the door wouldn’t lock, and although it was fixed a few hours later, our things had to be left unattended until then. Afterward the knob was so stiff my wife couldn’t turn it. The beds were uncomfortable, the TV didn’t work, and the lighting was too dim for reading. We were stuck indoors overnight because of heavy rain and had nothing to do. Only cold water came from the sink, and the smoke detector didn’t work. Not a good place. Don’t go here.
