Midas Belize

The location is good, and having a pool was nice. Still, for the $250 USD we paid for a family room, I expected more. It wasn’t as clean as it could’ve been, the decor was poor, and some amenities were missing. I might not have minded as much at a backpacker place, but at that price it was disappointing.

I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The room felt dated, the walls were thin enough that we heard the people next door, and the water pressure was poor. We also had to wait for hot water. At checkout they charged us $10 for two supposedly missing cups, though the glasses had never been in the room. We did forget an item there, but they didn’t call us about it.

The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning worked well, which helped offset the general wear and tear around the hotel. We found hair clumps by the pool, rubbish in the stairwell, and clogged drains. The location worked well for exploring San Ignacio: the market is close and great for inexpensive souvenirs and fresh produce, and there’s a grocery store and fried chicken place across the street. We stayed two nights in December. Breakfast fry jacks were delicious, and the bartender and his daughter were a lot of fun to spend time with. Their happy hour was great too. A good budget option.

The setting out back is lovely, with lots of trees, a butterfly garden, and toucans in the early morning. There’s a pool and bar, balconies in the rooms, and a veranda on each floor, as well as cabins and rooms. Good amenities overall and a great location. The beds vary, though. Some are firm, which I like, but the one I got was very soft.
