Cocotal is a gorgeous, clean property that's clearly well cared for. The rooms were spacious and meticulously clean, and we enjoyed having a pool for cooling off and a beachfront dock for sun. The east side of the island mostly isn't suitable for swimming, but Secret Beach on the west side is about a 30-minute golf cart ride away. There are lots of restaurants and cafes nearby, plus an ATM ten minutes away on foot and a market five minutes away. We also found there was already plenty of food just a few minutes down the road, so an onsite restaurant didn't seem necessary. Wi-Fi anywhere on the island is slow, and LTE 4G is about the best mobile speed you can expect. Ben, the property manager, arranged a taxi to meet us at the water taxi and take us back when we left. On two or three weekday mornings, a barge unloaded at the building materials company next door around 6:30 to 7:00 a.m. We were awake by then, so it wasn't a problem, but light sleepers who like to sleep in could use foam earplugs. Weekends were fine. We'd definitely stay at Cocotal again!

My wife and I spent a whole week here, and everyone was helpful and accommodating. The bed was amazing, really comfy, and kept us cool. The full kitchen meant we could save money by making our own food, and the air conditioning was nice and cool too. If you run into Jeff, make sure you greet him and give him a pet. He’s a sweetheart, and treats in the morning will win him over.

The ocean and reef views were beautiful, and the dock was a great spot to fish or unwind in the hammocks. We stayed in the first cabana and found the property clean, with wonderful staff who were happy to help. We’ve been to Belize five times before, and the people here made this place especially worth visiting. There was some morning noise from the neighboring land, but it wasn’t anything too bad. The restaurant right next door served good food.

We liked having a clean, comfortable cabana right on the water, with a kitchen and fridge that let us make a few meals and save leftovers for lunch. The pool was a welcome way to cool off after biking around the island, and the free bikes and kayaks were handy. I took a kayak out to the reef to snorkel once, but didn’t find much there, so I didn’t go again. It’s a quiet, cute place about two miles north of town, with friendly, helpful staff and some restaurants nearby. I just wish there were a restaurant on site.

Ben was so welcoming, and we loved spotting birds and butterflies from our window, along with the occasional hello from his dog, Jeff. Our little garden cabana had everything we needed, including a full kitchen and fridge, and it was very clean. The dishes were always washed and drying when we got back from being out. It felt peaceful by the water, while still being only about a 10-minute golf cart ride from town. We didn’t get around to using the free kayaks or bikes. Be sure to stop at the nearby Truck stop for good food and live music. We’d happily come back soon. 10/10!
