Mahogany Bay Homes

We stayed at Mahogany Bay for a week. Everyone we dealt with was polite and kind, but the number of problems made the stay extremely frustrating. There was always something to sort out. The door lock failed and left us locked out of our cabin for over an hour. The front window screen fell off, even though there’s no glass and mosquitoes make the screen necessary. The porch light went out, the hot water heater broke, and there was no drinking water, which is required in Belize. After the first room service there were no towels. We asked for more and then left the do not disturb sign up because housekeeping didn’t seem very helpful. An air conditioner broke too. They said someone would come right away, but nobody showed and it was never fixed. Someone went through my backpack while we were out and stole $100 from inside the nightstand drawer. I wasn’t using the safe, so after that we put as much as possible in it and kept our scuba gear at the dive shop. We felt safer storing it there than in our locked unit. We also asked for two extra key cards and were told they could make them, but would charge $50 each if we didn’t return them. Odd. One afternoon the power went out, and the front desk said the whole island was without power, so we stayed in. It turned out only the resort had lost power and the rest of the island was fine. With the right information, we could have gone out and enjoyed ourselves. The theft was especially serious, but the other issues added up. We thought staying somewhere with the Hilton name attached would be a cautious choice. It was a mistake. We fell in love with Belize, but won’t return to Mahogany Bay.

The rooms are trash, but the staff are crazy marvelous. Derrick at the bar at main house is amazing, and Alex, Vanessa, Miguel and Domingo at the Island are AMAZING, KIND AND FUN! We’d stay again just for the great island and the people working here. Still, your sink will back up, your toilet will break, and HELLO COCKROACHES.

The private island was the highlight for me: an easy boat ride takes you to incredibly clear water, a full bar, good food, beds, swings in the water, and such a peaceful atmosphere. It really felt like paradise. Back at Mahogany Bay, the pool was gorgeous and the food was delicious too. I stayed at this Hilton Curio Collection property in San Pedro, Belize from December 22-26 for my birthday, and had an amazing time. The cottage-style accommodations felt private, comfortable, and safe, with a particularly relaxing outdoor living space. You need a golf cart to get around, but that was part of the fun and added to the island experience. From arrival on, everyone was welcoming and the service was outstanding. The bell staff helped with my luggage and arranged reliable 24-hour taxi service, so getting around was easy and stress-free. I highly recommend Mahogany Bay. In my opinion, it’s the best property in San Pedro, a 10/10 across the board. I had a perfect birthday vacation and can’t wait to return.

We had a very nice two-bedroom villa, and it even came with its own washer and dryer. The food was well prepared, the atmosphere felt just right, and they took care of anything we asked for. Loved this place! Beautiful, and the staff were excellent. Big shout out to Gilmer!
