Serenade Hotel

Renovations are understandable, but guests and hotel staff should still be treated with courtesy and professionalism. It was disappointing to see the permanent team, who clearly care about guests, treated dismissively by a temporary repair crew. I hope the peaceful, respectful atmosphere they maintain returns fully once the work is done. They deserve recognition for their dedication. I’ve stayed at Serenade Hotel before and always appreciated the warmth of the permanent staff. During this visit, Manager Lulu was professional and genuinely caring, while Sobo in maintenance and Sila in housekeeping were kind, considerate, and accommodating as far as they could be. The hotel is undergoing renovations, and I understand that work is needed, but this stay was mixed. I was unwell and asked the crew how long they expected to work right outside my room so I could plan a short nap. I wasn’t asking them to stop, just hoping they’d keep the loud conversation and laughter down while I rested on the other side of the wall. Their response felt rude and dismissive. Later I overheard Manager Lulu raise the issue respectfully, but her concerns were dismissed too. Given how the crew handled it and their lack of respect for the manager on duty, I took the matter to one of the owners. The owner spoke calmly and professionally with them, explaining that the renovation work itself was fine, but loud talking and laughing just outside a guest’s room was inconsiderate. He did not raise his voice, swear, or act disrespectfully toward the temporary crew.

Placencia is a working village, so don't come expecting a resort, pool, or tropical paradise setup. For the price, though, this was exactly the base I wanted for exploring, then cooling off and resting. I'd pick it first if traveling solo again. Maybe for two people, but not more. The location couldn't be better, with food, bars, the beach, and pier all a short walk away. Lucinda was great and stayed up for my late arrival. My room was simple, clean, and seemed recently renovated, with a comfortable bed and nice bathroom. I think the fridge hadn't been put back after the work. I saw one in another empty room and should have asked, since cold water is a must in this area.

The staff were incredibly accommodating. One woman stayed late to help us check in, and her son helped with our luggage. I feel bad that I can't remember her name. The rooms were clean and spacious, and they were making some upgrades while I was there. The location is perfect, the rates are great, and I absolutely love this little gem. We'll stay here next time we're in the area.

For $60-80 a night, this is hard to beat if you want an affordable room with the basics. There’s no kitchen, but the bed was comfortable, the shower warm, the AC cold, and we had a fridge and TV. It's quiet and right in the middle of Placencia, with restaurants and gift shops just steps away. Ming's Market is close, and the beach is only a couple hundred feet from the property. Cozy Corner is nearby too, and I highly recommend the stuff Jack's for breakfast. The manager was quick to respond, available in her office during the day, and very helpful when I needed a room at the last minute.
