Portofino Beach Resort

The beach had sargassum built up, but the resort crew tried to keep it to a minimum. It’s one of those things nature does, and it didn’t stop us enjoying the activities or the beautiful property. We were here for our 25th wedding anniversary, and they decorated the bed for us too. Portifino is well north of San Pedro, which made it quiet enough to get away from town noise. We timed the ride and it took about 15 minutes on a bumpy dirt road; getting into town is a bumpy 30-minute trip, with 15 minutes of that on dirt, so rent a golf cart if you want to dine in town. The resort itself is peaceful, with very well-kept grounds. The thatched-roof beach cabana was simple but just right, the A/C worked well, the bed was comfortable, and the hot water was hot. The pool was great for stretching out in the sun. The restaurant on site was very good. We had dinner there once and breakfast and lunch several times, and all of it was VERY good. You can settle all the charges at the end of your stay instead of paying for each thing separately. Faura at the front desk was warm and welcoming, and Rudy and Duane at the bar were kind and friendly. They make you feel like family. This isn’t the Ritz Carlton, but if you want a beautiful, peaceful boutique resort, this IS it. We’d come back to Portifino and definitely recommend it.

We spent a lot of time by the beautiful pool while staying in a nearby vrbo, so we didn’t see inside the beachside villas. At Portofino, the service was exceptional and the food delicious, whether you go for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Rodolfo (Roady) at the bar made excellent spicy margaritas and fruit smoothies, always with a smile. Treat yourself to an oceanside deep tissue massage. Highly recommend!

San Pedro is a long way off, but that’s part of the appeal if you’re after peace and quiet. There are also bars and restaurants nearby. We booked a great snorkel trip with Carpe Diem (Chris) through the resort, and it came with our package, as did a private dinner on the beach. Our 5 night package was exceptional. The resort is quaint, with beautiful grounds and a nice pool, and the attentive staff made us feel like family and were happy to help with whatever we needed. The food was the best we had among all the places we visited. We’d definitely stay here again.

We had our elopement on the beach here, and Johanna made planning it a really enjoyable process. Everything looked gorgeous, it all went smoothly, and the romantic beach dinner was delicious. The resort is small, quiet, pretty, and private. The staff take extra care of you. Faura was so sweet and checked in to see if we were comfortable, while the guys at the bar and restaurant kept things light and fun. So sad to leave. Highly recommend, 10/10, can’t wait to come back!
