We spent seven days at TBR and left wishing we could stay another week. It felt personal from the start, with the staff learning our names on the first day and us learning theirs. It was like visiting cousins. Everyone was friendly, quiet, respectful, and honest. The setting is incredibly peaceful. The reef shelters miles of calm water, most of it only chest deep, with clear water full of fish. There’s a smaller coral reef to snorkel, and the fine white sand is raked every sunrise by the attentive staff. Snorkeling gear, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards were all in excellent condition and ready to use. There are just 10 detached, single-unit villas. The chef accommodates dietary restrictions and preferences, and the food is on a level with renowned restaurants. TBR felt like a Shangri-la to me. If you want a cruise ship or a glitzy high-rise casino resort, this won’t be your place.

The room was spotless and the bed comfortable, and the restaurant has plenty of options, plus cold beer and mixed drinks. There’s a nice dock where you can have a drink and watch tarpon and jacks swim past. You can also try DIY fly fishing right from the resort, or walk north toward Rubios point. I had to arrive a day early because of a storm, and Isabel Matus and her husband Acxel were very accommodating and kept in touch well. They met me at the airport, gave me a golf cart ride to the marina, then took me by boat to the resort. I hope to stay here again.
We’ve been coming to San Pedro for a long time, and I’d always wanted to stay here. We finally spent a few days at this little resort on the reef, and it was just what we were after. The service, food, and accommodations were all excellent, and the staff were so friendly we enjoyed hanging out with them. We’re coming back in May and plan to stay for the whole trip. It’s also a peaceful escape from the bustle of town and won’t break the bank. For fly fishing at night, they have underwater lights that attract huge tarpon and all sorts of other fish. There’s great DIY fly fishing a few miles past the resort, and they can arrange guides for other island activities. Snorkeling is easy right in front of your villa, with the reef not too far out. The reef and ocean life around the restaurant dock are impressive. Thanks again, we’re already looking forward to our next visit to tranquility Bay resort. Much love, y’all are superstars!
The owners were amazing when an unavoidable incident made the room we’d booked unusable at 2 a.m. on arrival day. The owner did everything possible to keep our trip on track and arranged a screaming deal for us at the neighboring all-inclusive Reef Haven Resort. We walked up to Tranquility Bay every day from there and still got the absolute most out of our vacation. I’ve never seen anyone show that much commitment to making a trip work. The location is also hard to beat for beach time and snorkeling on Ambergris Cay, maybe the best beach too. North of the resort, the coast and barrier reef enclose a protected stretch of water. The reef seems to filter some sargassum, and a slight current to the south appears to carry it back out to sea. Tranquility Bay was the only resort I saw with clear water right to the sand. That gentle current makes snorkeling especially good. Walk north along the beach and you can float with it for hours, passing through all kinds of underwater habitats. There’s almost no boat traffic up there. We snorkeled for two hours without hearing a boat.
It’s remote, which I loved because it made the place so peaceful. The staff were really nice and made it feel like a community. We ate well too, especially anything with fish, and I’d happily stay again. Snorkeling right off the beach was fantastic. We saw eagle rays, turtles, sting rays, nurse sharks, reef sharks, eels, beautiful coral, and loads of fish. Some spots are very shallow. Swim straight out from the restaurant to the reef, then head right, and it gets deeper, with what seemed like the healthiest coral. You’ll likely have it almost entirely to yourself.
