Lower Dover

Lower Dover's central location made it easy to use as our base camp for day tours. The place is well maintained, with a magical mix of nature and culture. Honestly, the stay alone made my Belize trip worthwhile. Thanks, Justin, you're already holding the 2026 best host award from me. I'll 100% return to this gem next time I'm in Belize.

San Ignacio is an easy drive or bus ride away, and Lower Dover has everything you need. Maddie knows the area well and helped guests arrange excursions, taxis, buses, and trips like the ATM cave. The eco-lodge is gorgeous, and the accommodations were clean and comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were delicious, healthy, farm-to-table meals, with vegetarian and vegan options on request. We also met new friends from around the world. Sooo perfect.

We shared the lime room with its private bedroom and shared bathroom and shower, and really loved our stay. The food was delicious, and Maddie and Justin were always helpful when we had questions or needed anything. We had so much fun swimming in the river and walking with jungle dog Jose. It's a bit outside San Ignacio, which suited us well, and we still made it there for a couple of meals and market day. Waking up to the sounds of nature in such a beautiful setting was lovely.

I only wish I'd booked a longer stay at Lower Dover. The family who owns the property were incredible and helped me with anything I needed, especially when I had to see a doctor. The grounds are clean, though remember you're still in the jungle, with lots of trails and places to explore. The food they cooked each night was delicious, even for a picky eater, and the other travelers in the lounge were nice too. I'd recommend at least three nights: one for the ATM cave, one for San Ignacio, and one to explore the property.
