Brookside Inn Boutique Hotel

The property is nice and local, and the people were lovely. The service was outstanding. I wanted to give the Inn five stars, but it was very dusty, from the floor edges to the dated decor and all the photos on the walls. That was a shame.

We enjoyed the themed room and all the attention to detail. Chris was kind and hosted us well. It’s a lovely B&B, and we’ll be back.

We parked right by the entrance. The location worked perfectly for our stop on the way to Banff, just off the highway. Our Secret Garden room had a cozy balcony with a lovely vineyard view, plus a kettle, mini fridge, and air conditioning. We preferred to leave the window slightly open for fresh air at night. The room was spotless, including the sparkling bathroom, and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. Breakfast was moved earlier to 7:30 for us, though it normally runs from 8 to 9. We appreciated that. There was fresh fruit, yogurt, muffins, and coffee. Eggs would have been a nice addition, but it was still a pleasant start to the day.

The continental breakfast was okay, but very basic. Chris was pleasant, though when we explained how unhappy we were with the accommodation, he wouldn’t consider a partial refund unless we stayed another night. We didn’t want to spend more money on a place we already weren’t happy with, so no thanks. We’d been looking forward to a getaway, but it was a big disappointment for the price. The hotel was for sale, and it felt to us as if the owners were tired and the details showed a lack of care. We were moved to an “upgraded” room that we liked less than the one we’d booked. The mattress had seen better days, so in the middle of the night we moved to the sofa bed. We wanted to shower but chose not to because the shower looked moldy and unclean. The room listing said there would be coffee service, but it was instant coffee, so we had to drive out at 7:00 am to find a coffee shop. There was also a large spider web behind the garbage can, another sign of poor attention to basic cleanliness. All in all, we can’t recommend Brookside as a place to stay.
