Bayside Inn

I called around 7 pm to order nachos, but was told they weren't making nachos or pizza then. I called back to switch to a veggie burger, only to hear they didn't have veggie patties. The next day I went in for a veggie burger and got the same answer. I tried asking for veggie pizza, but they said pizza isn't made before 5, so I left. Service was awful. I stood there for a good five minutes before anyone asked if I could sit down. Never going back.

Joh-nee's bachemel sauce never lets you down. The owner really takes pizza seriously. I wish I'd eaten more while I had the chance.

We only stopped in because there wasn't anywhere else open in Alert Bay for lunch at 11. Some older reviews mention Indian dishes like curry, but that menu is gone, and there's no breakfast menu either. The place has clearly changed hands since 2022. When we visited, there was one chef and one server out front. The food was basic greasy-diner fare, and service was adequate. The washrooms were close to unacceptable, and even the ferry terminal's public washrooms were cleaner. It barely works as a stop for people who are desperately hungry. Next time we'll bring our own food on the ferry. Avoid if you can.

The couple running the place seem very nice, and we hate writing a bad review, but our lunch was a miserable experience. The food was edible, greasy, bland, tasteless, uninspired, and definitely not worth the calories. The cleanliness was worse. The eating area's floor was sticky and looked like it hadn't been mopped in ages. The washroom was filthy beyond that: what looked like diarrhea had dried on the walls so long ago it was like wallpaper, and the toilet seat was coated with old excrement. There was no soap or paper towel, and the floor hadn't been cleaned for a very long time. None of this seemed fresh. It's sad to say, but it clearly isn't a new problem. Maybe they've lost their love for the business. We should have paid more attention to the poor reviews instead of being swayed by the 4.3-star rating. Also, the mushroom mozzarella burger is not vegetarian.
