Travelodge by Wyndham Alma

The rooms were clean, modern, and nice, and the service was good. Breakfast was above average for this kind of hotel. The pool, though, is a five-minute walk away at another hotel, which isn’t ideal and should have been made clearer in the description. We also saw people on drugs in the streets near the hotel downtown several times during our three-day stay. I don’t know if that’s common, but it happened more than once. We’ll try another hotel next time we’re in Alma.

The best part for cyclists was the basket of worn face clothes they leave out for cleaning bikes, brilliant! The room was very clean, and breakfast was decent, with the usual options. I was pleasantly surprised during my cycle trip around lac St Jean. It’s excellent value for money, and I’d stay here again.

The location was very convenient, within walking distance of lots of amenities, and the staff member I met was friendly. The bed was okay, and there were a few well-placed electrical and USB outlets for charging devices. The room was generally clean and had a small fridge for my use. Still, I was disappointed and won’t stay at this resort again. The TV turned on and off, but wouldn’t respond to anything else or recognize my HDMI device. Internet was slow, barely enough to stream at 360p, and sometimes buffered for a long time without playing the rest of the video. The bathroom fan didn’t work, and I could hear hallway knocking from around 6am. I only met one staff member, so I didn’t interact much with the hotel personnel.

At 8:30pm, the front desk couldn’t find my confirmed reservation and rudely turned my family, including our young kids, away. I felt it was clearly discrimination against English speakers. We had to drive 50 km to find somewhere else to stay for the night. A horrible experience. Never coming back!
