Maritime Inn Antigonish

The attached restaurant is very good, with a terrific menu and fair prices, and I'd happily eat there again. The location is fine, parking is great, and the staff are friendly. But the room was the problem, and for a place where you're mainly there to sleep, that's a big one. Room 103 was dark, dingy, stuffy, and very worn: peeling bathroom wallpaper, grout that badly needed cleaning, a rusty shower curtain rod and metal grate in the bathroom door, and scuffs all over the walls. There were three dead bugs in the bedding, which I hope weren't bedbugs. Cleaning seemed very perfunctory, and the room was so dark I can see how things might be missed. I paid $182 plus tax, even with a very good breakfast, and felt cheated by the poor accommodation. I can't recommend this inn and won't stay again.

The breakfast was a proper, filling meal, and the staff made us feel well looked after. I was in town for a workshop at St. Francis Xavier University Coady Institute, and this was the hotel they use. Really lovely hospitality. Thanks, I’ll be back before too long.

We stopped here in September 2025 on our way from the North Sydney ferry and would gladly stay again. The beds were very comfortable, and everything was clean, even if a few parts of the hotel felt dated. The front desk and manager gave us good service, and the room came with a hot breakfast for two. It was cooked to order, which I much prefer to buffet warmers. We’d recommend it.

The staff were friendly, but the Maritime Inn in Antigonish needs a lot of attention. There’s no elevator, so it isn’t accessible. In our room, the toilet didn’t work and the shower was stained all over. The bedding was stained and felt ancient, while the carpet was worn and dirty. Even the paint looked grimy, and little repairs had been left undone. It needs a thorough cleaning and an upgrade.
