Hôtel Le Manoir

The food was great, and sitting on the terrace enjoying it felt like a vacation. The spot is hard to beat, overlooking the St. Lawrence Estuary in a nice neighborhood. The views are breathtaking. The rooms could use updating, and there's no real gym. Even so, it's probably the best hotel in town.

There's a warm, classic feel to the place, and the cozy rooms make each visit feel personal and relaxed, with a distinctly Québecois character.

The location is amazing, right by the river and close to downtown, with breathtaking views just minutes away. We could walk along the beach or take the kids to a very nice park next to the hotel. Service was okay, though most staff said they were new and often guessed instead of checking with someone who knew. The room had an AndroidTV system that let us stream easily from our phones, although it displayed someone else's name. WiFi was decent, but not especially fast. Breakfast cost extra, but was good and reasonably priced, and the dining room also has a great river view. The room itself was a letdown. The bed was uncomfortable and the pillows were too small. The AC didn't work properly: even when set to 19°, the room stayed at a high 24°, and we couldn't change the requested temperature. The bathroom was very dated. I understand it's a historical building, but the plumbing or ceramic could have been updated, and the shower head needed descaling. There are basically no amenities, such as a pool or gym. The hotel restaurant was terrible and expensive, with a burnt burger and watery drinks. The aluminum chairs were uncomfortable, and the tables were basic black plastic folding ones.

The restaurant was pretty decent, and the prices were very fair. We had shrimp fettuccine and beef ravioli. My only complaint was that the tiny cocktail shrimp brought down the quality of the fettuccine, so I'd still recommend eating there. The room was the worst hotel room I've ever experienced. The bathroom sink was outside the bathroom, and the only soap was in a dispenser in the shower, which was in the other room. There was basically no sound insulation, so we could hear people talking upstairs and downstairs. Someone above us seemed to spend until around 11 pm rearranging furniture. I came very close to sleeping in the car. I'd recommend the food, but not staying there.
