We left feeling stressed, humiliated, and unfairly targeted. Between the emergency exit, the noise and no sleep, and the accusation about the smoke detector, this was an unacceptable stay. I'd strongly caution others before booking. My husband and I stayed for two nights with our two dogs and paid an extra accommodation fee for each dog, per night. We were assigned a first-floor corner room beside an emergency exit. The door was unlocked all night, and people came and went at all hours. Each time it slammed shut, the old hotel's thin walls made the whole room shake with a loud bang. It kept startling our dogs, who barked, so we had to wake up and quiet them to avoid disturbing other guests. We got no sleep. We asked to change rooms the next morning because of the disturbance and were moved to the third floor, which we appreciated at the time. But when we came back from town that afternoon, reception staff aggressively accused us of covering the smoke detector in our old room with a plastic bag. They told us, “Just to let you know we found the smoke detector covered and it’s illegal to do that and a serious offence.” We immediately denied it, because we absolutely hadn't done that, but they kept accusing us. One staff member even said the room hadn't been occupied for over 10 days before our stay, essentially calling us liars. They didn't seem to consider whether the room smelled of smoke, or why a couple with two dogs would smoke with their dogs there. Instead of asking respectfully or looking into it properly, they treated us as guilty without evidence. Other guests were in the lobby, which made the whole thing embarrassing. A covered detector could have been missed in the inspection before our stay, or placed there after we moved out, possibly to justify an unwarranted $500 fine for something we didn't do.

At $114 including taxes and fees, we had nothing to complain about. Our room was clean and more than adequate, with a fridge, microwave, coffee, and tea. The staff were lovely and quickly found us a snowbrush when we realized we didn't have one. I also liked the Rocky Mountain Soap Company shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, and hand soap, a nice upscale Canadian touch. It's an older place, sure, but neither am I haha!

We parked the car and walked everywhere all weekend since the hotel was close enough. I booked a room for myself and three others on a budget and didn't mention the bad reviews. To my surprise, nobody in our group had any complaints. The “2 bedroom” label is a little misleading, but there were two clean, comfortable beds separated by a door, along with everything else we needed. We heard hallway noise now and then, but noise from other rooms didn't bother us. I'd stay here again without hesitation.

The staff were friendly, and the hotel was clean and comfortable. The location worked well for skiing, with downtown within walking distance, and the price was great. We liked it and would choose it again if we visit Banff.

Downtown Banff is convenient, with lots of shops and restaurants nearby, but our stay was disappointing. The room was dusty, and there were blood spots on both the pillow and bedsheets. With no staff available that day to help, we were left spare sheets and pillowcases in the hallway and had to change them ourselves. That wasn't acceptable. The room was also quite noisy and hard to rest in. If cleanliness matters to you, I wouldn't recommend booking the inn. One more thing, the underground parking is very narrow and has a low ceiling, so take extra care.
