Mount Royal Hotel

It felt very quiet and low key, almost like an adults-only kind of hotel. The rooftop hot tubs were great, with amazing daytime views. The hotel and rooms were nice, and the staff were extremely helpful and pleasant to deal with. Right in the middle of Banff, so you can walk everywhere.

We had amazing views, so be sure to get a room facing the town side. The building was very well kept inside and out, and the front desk area had a lovely Christmas feel. Staff were extremely polite. There are Nespresso machines in the rooms, and good-quality extra coffee on level 2. Starbucks is across the street, which made me happy! It was quiet and relaxing, and we didn’t hear any of the noise other guests have mentioned. Our bed was comfy, but the mattress in our particular room, 435, was extremely caved in and needs replacing. Thankfully, there were two queen beds to choose from, so we slept well and woke up rested each day. It wasn’t too bad, really. Great spot in the middle of town, and convenient. I’d stay again, and will, and would recommend it.

The location and view were great for the price, but our stay had some frustrating parts. We spent four nights in November and got a corner room near the service elevator and garbage area, which was noisy. I wondered if that was because we hadn’t booked directly. The bed size was fine, but the pillows were very small and the mattress uncomfortable. Housekeeping was unclear: the room was cleaned on the first day only, then not properly serviced on the following days. Trash wasn’t taken out, there were no fresh towels, and the bed wasn’t made properly. Front desk staff weren’t very friendly, and one morning we had limited hot water. Good location for the price, but disappointing service and housekeeping.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and everything is within walking distance. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We chose MRH partly for its outdoor hot tub on the fourth floor, which is especially nice in winter. It was closed because of a malfunction when we checked in, so we were definitely disappointed. But the front desk offered us a free hot breakfast in the restaurant. Great service. We’ll be back, hopefully when the hot tub is fixed.
