Knights Inn Barrie

The owner was very nice, which was the only good part of our stay. The room itself was gross: sticky floor, no toilet paper or towels, and a dirty sink and tub. We also couldn't control the heat. Outside, the parking lot was flooded and people were fighting right by our room.

The free breakfast was good, and we never had trouble with the free WiFi. It's also close to downtown, so getting food or going for a walk was easy. I stayed three nights, and the room was always clean, smelled fresh, and had fresh towels and sheets. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the manager did what he could to help when I urgently needed a room, checking that I was okay. This place deserves five stars.

The street was quiet, there was plenty of parking, and management was nice. But even at $75-105 a room, the rooms were dirty and smelled of smoke. There wasn't a towel, the TV barely worked, and the remote practically didn't work at all. It's a low-end motel, so I'm not expecting anything fancy. I do expect a better clean and working equipment.

We didn't stay. The room was obviously unclean, there was mould on the shower walls, no hot water after waiting five minutes, and the tub wouldn't drain. I checked for bedbugs too, because by then I wouldn't have been surprised. I went to demand a refund, and the office manager was reluctant at first, but I told him he had no choice. I also called my credit card company and had them put a notice on the merchant. I wouldn't stay at Knights Inn for free, let alone pay the $158 we were charged. It's filthy, and I don't recommend it. Check-in was a mess from the start. A vehicle in the lot was jacked up and missing a wheel. In the office, the manager called from the back that he'd be right there, and we waited a couple of minutes for someone to help. Then, during check-in, he suddenly told us about a $100 security fee. I paid for the stay, took the key card, and went to the room.
