That little private beach behind Island Sunset Resort made our Cape Breton trip feel extra special. We spent four days there, and the sea view from our spotless, comfortable room was lovely at both sunrise and sunset. The staff were helpful and welcoming from the minute we arrived. Such a peaceful getaway, I’d happily recommend it.

The staff were friendly and helpful both before we arrived and during our stay. We were there August 21-24, and the cottage was lovely, with beautiful views and waves rolling in nearby. It was so peaceful, especially if you enjoy looking up at the stars. We’d definitely return.

The sunset views from this beautiful spot were the highlight. Suzanne and the rest of the staff were outstanding, friendly, and full of useful information. Just know that ice, groceries, and dining are about 10-15 minutes away. There’s a diner two minutes from the resort, but the food is terrible, so it’s better to drive the extra 10 minutes or shop in Grand Etang.

The rooms were roomy and had everything we needed to make our own meals, and the staff were welcoming and accommodating. The big disappointment was the restaurant. We booked seven months ahead for our June stay because we expected it to be open, especially with only one other restaurant nearby. We arrived to find out it wouldn’t open at all that season, and nobody had let us know. Since the restaurant was a major reason we chose the place, that was frustrating.

We ate at the on-site restaurant and really enjoyed it. The seafood chowder was among the best I’ve had in Nova Scotia, and the pesto-crusted salmon with vegetables and chicken and bacon linguine were fresh and full of flavor. Portions were good, service was reasonably quick, and you can watch the kitchen at work. Expect around $40-50 per person for a full meal, appetizer, and drink. It’s between casual and fine dining price-wise, but we left full and didn’t feel shortchanged by tiny, overpriced portions. We stayed in room 24, one of the King Royal Suites overlooking the ocean. It was enormous, clean, and well kept, with a king bedroom, four-piece bathroom, jacuzzi tub and separate shower, living room, and kitchenette. We were comfortable throughout. The old box TV in the bedroom gave us a laugh, but it didn’t bother us, and there’s a new flat screen in the living room if you want to watch something. The food and room both made for a very happy stay.
