HI-Bonavista Hostel

The bathroom was the one good part. I know it's a hostel, so maybe my expectations should've been lower, but I still can't recommend it. The room would've been okay if the bed hadn't been awful. There were no TV remotes, and the helpful guy on the phone suggested "stilling one" from the living room, though we'd need two. Even getting the thing turned on became a whole adventure, but I figured it out. Worst of all, the window was cracked, crooked, and wouldn't shut.

The owners are genuinely kind, generous and accommodating, and the price is very affordable. Still, the hostel needs work, so don't expect much comfort. There's no staff at all. One of the owners usually comes by in the morning to handle a few things, clean and do laundry. The outside looks almost abandoned and needs a lot of maintenance, there's nowhere to sit outside, and the furniture is well past its best days.

The location is good, parking is free, and the bathrooms are spacious and clean, even though they're on a different floor from the bedrooms. There isn't much choice in town, and the rates are fair, so my two-night stay was acceptable. The building and rooms could use some attention, though, and the bunk beds creak with even the slightest movement.

I only saw the outside, but it gave the impression of a quiet, no-fuss place.
