Fair Isle Motel

We only needed somewhere to sleep for one night, thankfully. We booked at short notice, and this was the only room we could find, but it felt overpriced for its condition. The floor looked fairly clean, though the walls looked dirty and there was grime and dust on the ceiling fan above the bed, so we didn’t dare turn it on. The fridge door looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in ages, and there was visible dirt beside and behind it. The bathroom was very dated, with the sink outside it, and the tub looked grungy. When we checked in, the room smelled strongly of cleaner. I can only assume they’d sprayed it to make it seem cleaned. By the end, I was thinking the car might have been preferable, and would’ve saved us almost $200.

They took our two XL dogs, and when we arrived they explained that the stairs near the room we’d booked were being replaced. We checked after checking in and that was true, so they upgraded us to a full suite, unit 21, at no extra charge. It was clean and spacious, with two separate bedrooms, a kitchen area with a fridge, stove, microwave, coffee maker, dishes, and table and chairs. The full bathroom had a hair dryer and nice towels, and the window air conditioner actually worked! We paid $140 for the night. The night before, we’d paid over $200 at the Charlottetown Inn & Conference Center, and I’d recommend the Fair Isle Motel over the Conference Centre.

The rooms at the Fair Isle Motel in pei were dated and didn’t seem properly cleaned. I’m not even sure the sheets were changed between customers. Worse, my room was infested with roaches. I had lots of proof in photos and videos, though Google wouldn’t let me upload the videos. The motel clerk dismissed what happened, refused to let me speak with the owner, and wouldn’t refund any money. An infestation like that needs an exterminator, not cockroach raid. Disgusting. Do better.

The place was VERY quiet and peaceful at night, even though a lot of the rooms seemed booked for some kind of noisy car show. We didn’t hear other guests or any noise. We visited in early June, and it was a WARM weekend for that time of year. The room got quite warm and had no fans, so if you mind the heat, especially at night, I’d bring a small one. They might provide fans if you ask, but we didn’t bother since it wasn’t a big deal. Maybe they put them in the rooms in actual summertime! It’s cozy rather than fancy, with a nice sized bathroom, comfy beds, mini-fridge, small breakfast table, and free wifi. The staff were all friendly, and booking went smoothly. It’s really close to Charlottetown without the extreme fees of a “tourist destination.” We’ll definitely be back next summer. If you want a good deal, this is the place for you!
